General Membership Policies

In accordance with the bylaws, membership is open to individuals in the insurance and financial services profession and related fields. The association's membership year is January 1st - December 31st. Membership is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

All individuals join and remit prorated dues through December 31st to the National organization. All members renew and remit full association dues on January 1st of each subsequent year. Dues payments are accepted via cash, check or credit card, are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes and no portion is attributable to lobbying expenditures. Dues may be deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. Members are responsible for any fees incurred related to insufficient funds or account collection activity.

The following special memberships are offered:

  1. Student membership is open to full-time students who are considering a career in insurance
    or financial services.
    a. National dues are waived.
    b. Chapter dues are paid by the member.
    c. Student membership is available for two years.
    d. Student must submit proof of full-time student status.
  2. Aspiring Professional membership is open to any unemployed individual who is actively pursuing a career in insurance or financial services.
    a. National dues discounted $100
    b. Chapter dues are paid by the member.
    c. Aspiring professional membership is available for one year.
    d. Proof of unemployment may be requested. 
  3. Retired membership is open to any fully retired insurance and financial services professionals.
    a. National dues are discounted $100
    b. Chapter dues are paid by the member
    c. Proof of retirement may be requested.

National members have the option of joining local chapters. Chapter dues are collected by National and remitted to chapters on behalf of members.

A meeting of the membership is held in accordance with the bylaws each year during the Annual Conference or as announced by the National Board. Members in good standing are eligible to vote in accordance with the bylaws and are granted login credentials (username and password) to access to all association programs. Members are encouraged to become involved and to volunteer their time and expertise. All members are required to comply with the association's   pdf code of ethics policy (107 KB) .

The association provides members with access to an online member directory for the purpose of facilitating networking among members. Use of member profile information for any other purpose is prohibited.

Auto-Renewal Policy

The option to enroll in the WIFS membership auto-renewal/recurring payment program is extended to all individuals except those associated with special or complimentary memberships. The member’s credit card information is securely collected, transmitted and maintained with the credit card processor. Membership for individuals who opt-in to participate in the auto-renewal/recurring payment program will be automatically renewed each January 1st at the current National and applicable Chapter dues rates. Individuals enrolled in the program are responsible for maintaining current credit card information. Failed credit card transactions will result in pending membership status until resolved. 

WIFS does not maintain or have direct access to credit card information for those enrolled in the auto-renewal program. Enrolled members are responsible for maintaining current credit card information. Receipts for processed renewal transactions will be sent to the member’s email address on file. Failed credit card transactions will result in pending membership status until resolved.

Program participants will receive an email reminder, that includes information on opting out and updating credit card information, between November and December each year. Requests to opt out/cancel participation in the auto-renewal/recurring payment program must be communicated to WIFS National via email to office@wifsnational.org on or before December 21st.
