DEI&B: Beyond the Business Case

While the business case of DEI&B is 100 percent necessary, it’s not enough on its own. For the spirit of authenticity and longevity, Kristen believes that the starting point of DEI&B is a place of personal conviction – the heart. She will speak about DEI&B in a way that makes it feel more approachable, and that sheds light on why the work, for lack of a better term, is truly important; and that’s the lived experiences of you, me, and all the folks that make our communities complete. In her presentation, Kristen will discuss the following:

  • The evolution of DEI+B & what it means today (with a nod to the effects of the pandemic)
  • The business case – A brief discussion around the economic value of DEI&B
  • A snapshot of Kristen's personal story and career journeys as a triple minority in the field of finance & insurance
  • Get into the weeds of DEI&B, but from the lens of those who identify as being different and that come from marginalized communities. While Diversity and Inclusion are what employers seek, true belonging is what people desire.

Kristen's goal is to tell the DEI&B story from the perspective of belonging.

Kristen has built a career that she loves in finance and insurance, and she is proud to work at OneDigital, a leading insurance brokerage, financial services and HR consulting firm. She joined OneDigital at the top of the pandemic, serving in a regional leadership role that aligned with all thing’s growth: DEI&B, talent and business development. She considers it a tremendous honor to now serve as OneDigital's first Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, and to align her purpose and passion for DEI&B with an organization that truly “gets it.”

Before OneDigital, Kristen worked in talent and leadership at a prominent financial planning firm in the Southeast and kickstarted their DEI&B journey.

Kristen loves people and believes there is nothing more valuable in this life than human connection. Her passion for people can be seen not only through her work in DEI&B, business development and talent acquisition but also in her community involvement. She serve on the boards of Neighborhood Hope and Youth Development Initiatives, both Charlotte, NC based nonprofits, and as an advisory board member for Yellowbird, a financial empowerment platform that provides underserved communities quality access to financial literacy.

Kristen has been quoted in multiple media publications, including Forbes and Insurance News Net, and was named a Charlotte Business Journal 2022 Top 40 Under 40 award winner. Her greatest privilege has been witnessing the breaking of chains, the birth of life-altering “aha!” moments and influencing organizational change.

When the more introverted part of her personality grabs hold of her, Kristen enjoys cooking (and eating!), trail running and practicing her interior design skills. She is the happy wife to an amazing husband, Josh; a proud aunt of seven incredible nieces and nephews; and an obsessed dog mom to two adorable pups, Teddy and Maggie.
